Ideas for expanding the Broken Herringbone pattern
1. Make two complete Unbroken Herringbone tops and put them side by side. This would give the quilt more of a "W" shape. This increases the width to roughly 104" wide. To increase the length you would need to add strip sets. The strips need to be added in pairs on each side. For every grouping you add, the quilt gets about 18 1/2" longer, so by adding (4) strips the quilt would be about 90" long, and with (8) strips it would be about 108".
2. To the same overall look of the broken herringbone, extend the length of the original strips. You can piece two strips together to make very long strips and then continue through the regular steps of the pattern. You would want to also add strips like I mentioned above to get the length. If you don't want a Queen or King quilt you could piece strips about 60" instead of doubling them.
3. Another way to increase the size of this quilt is by adding borders to all four sides in the same color as the sashing. This is the easiest way to expand the size of the quilt and I really like the look of the herringbone floating in the middle.
Yardage requirements for these suggestions have not been calculated.

Due to the construction methods, the exact size of the finished quilt may vary slightly. The scraps cut from the quilt during construction can be reserved for a pieced back. Two examples of ways to utilize the scraps for a pieced back are found in the final section of the pattern. Exact dimensions are not included for pieced backs.
Finished quilt measures approximately 52" x 70".
The Broken Herringbone Quilt was originally created from the Broken Herringbone pattern in the Madrona Road collection. It is still unclear which came first though... print or pattern? I don't remember!

Errata
In 2010, the first few copies had a misprint in the yardage requirements on the back cover. The correction is to cut (20) 1-1/2" strips.
