The Unicorn & Horse Abstractions Quilts
The Unicorn Abstractions quilt is from the multi-option foundation paper piecing project booklet in the Violet Craft Abstractions Series.
This pattern includes directions to make either a Unicorn or a Horse and also offers different background options. In this version, a rainbow background with tossed stars surround the unicorn for a colorful quilt.
Finished size is 60” x 60”. Additional templates provided for free download have been made to extend the size of the quilt. Additional sizing information is provided below.

The original Unicorn Abstractions Quilt on cover uses Violet Craft Modern Basics, Essex Yarn Dyed Metallics, Manchester, and Manchester Metallics from Robert Kaufman.
The original Horse Abstractions Quilt on back cover uses Essex Yarn Dyed Metallics, Manchester, Manchester Metallics, and Essex Homespun from Robert Kaufman.

The paper-pieced stars can also be removed from the background if you so chose. So many choices in one dreamy pattern!

The download is a PDF file containing 41 pages with the templates starting on page 5 of the pattern file. For best results print the first 4 instructional pages in color on 8.5” x 11” paper, and print the other 37 pages in grayscale on 11” x 17” paper on a dark enough setting to retain all details.

The Horse Quilt Kit includes the pattern, plus fabric to make the BROWN HORSE WITH BLUE BACKGROUND quilt top plus the binding. The background is the most beautiful sky blue yarn-dyed Essex. The kit contains these exact fabrics, however the pattern and templates are the same adjustable templates, so you could easily add in the stars and/or the horn with your own fabrics if desired.

Helpful Information
Piece 26A is larger than can be pieced from fabric cut as a long quarter instead of a fat quarter. No worries! Just use two pieces of fabric to complete this section.
Errata
When making the Horse Version, template 83 contains the base of the horn in 83A. Use the B6 background fabric across 83A and 83B. This notation was left out of the HORSE VERSION section on the inside cover of the booklet.
