The Elevated Abstractions: Mt. Hood Quilt

The Elevated Abstractions: Mt. Hood Quilt is the first in Violet’s Elevated Abstractions series of quilt patterns that feature iconic natural landscapes transformed into abstract and modern quilt designs. This pattern depicts the majestic Mt. Hood, a dormant volcano in the Cascade Range of Oregon. The entire quilt is foundation paper pieced with Violet Craft's signature Abstractions foundation paper piecing technique and comes together in sections to one large scale block measuring 44” wide x 30” high.

The design captures the essence of Mt. Hood with bold geometric shapes and vibrant colors. It incorporates elements of abstraction and modern quilting techniques, making it a visually striking and contemporary piece of artwork. The use of contrasting colors and intricate piecing techniques adds depth and dimension to the quilt, creating a stunning representation of the mountain.

Like other quilts in Violet’s Abstractions series’, this design encourages quilters to experiment with color choices and fabric placement, allowing for a personalized interpretation of the iconic landmark in day or night. Instructions assume a knowledge of foundation paper piecing. If you are new to paper piecing or just want a thorough explanation of the construction of these blocks, please visit our Tutorials page.

The download is a PDF file containing 20 pages with the templates starting on page 5 of the pattern file. For best results print the first 4 instructional pages in color on 8.5” x 11” paper, and print the other 16 pages in grayscale on 11” x 17” paper on a dark enough setting to retain all details.

Most home printers WILL NOT PRINT 11" x 17" paper. We recommend Staples and the average cost is under $5.

The Elevated Abstractions: Mt. Hood quilts are made with a foundation paper piecing pattern. The Mt. Hood quilt is the first project in the Abstractions landscape series. This foundation paper pieced quilt is made with one striking large scale block.

Finished quilt measures 44" x 30".

PATTERN - Physical patterns are mailed with templates printed front and back so they can not be used in the making of the quilt top. A set of templates for making the quilt top must be copied or traced from the pattern set on your choice of paper. I prefer to use standard 20# copy paper. Make sure to request black and white copies, print on a dark enough setting to see all marks on the pages, and print at the same scale they come in. DO NOT FIT TO PAGE.

+ TEMPLATE SET - To eliminate the need to copy or trace the templates yourself, a ready-to -use set of one-sided, precopied templates printed on 20# copy paper can be added to this purchase.

KITS - Kits can be purchased without a pattern if you already have it, with a pattern, or with a pattern and set of precopied templates. Kits do not include binding or backing fabric. This quilt uses 1-1/2 yards for backing fabric and 1/2 yard for binding.

All Violet Craft foundation paper piecing patterns assume a working knowledge of Foundation Paper Piecing and do not include Foundation Paper Piecing instructions. Tutorials can be found on the FPP Tutorials Page.
